Announcing $61 Million in Community Project Funding Designations

This week, I announced the Community Project Funding designations – totaling $61 million – that I submitted to the Appropriations Committee for federal fiscal year 2023.

Projects include a new theater and performing arts center for downtown Pittston, a new levee system to protect Mayfield, new construction at the Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport and multiple funding projects in support of law enforcement, police, sewer systems, road repair and emergency responders throughout our region. Congratulations to Abington Heights Students

Congratulations to the mock trial team from Abington Heights High School. They placed 15th at the national mock trial finals in early May, competing against 44,000 high school teams from across the country. I am proud to have you all representing Northeastern Pennsylvania.

This week, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act passed the House, strengthening our nation’s workforce development system. I was proud to see that my amendment to the bill also passed, adding transportation to the allowable use of funds for YouthBuild participants. 

Other major legislative accomplishments from this week: 

H.R. 7688: Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act - This would give the Federal Trade Commission the power to hold oil companies accountable for excessive and exploitative profiteering from consumers during energy emergencies.  The largest four Big Oil companies collectively made $27 billion in profits during the first quarter of this year – some of these were record highs; others were the highest profits in over a decade.

H.R. 7790: Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act - This bill will provide $28 million in emergency funding to the FDA to address the urgent infant formula shortage and help prevent it from ever happening again.
