Dear John,

My name is Sofia Perez, and today, I wanted to talk to you about my daughter, Janelle.

But first, I’ll tell you a bit about myself. I left Cuba when I was 3 years old with my parents. When my parents made the difficult decision to leave everything behind for Miami, they knew that it was for the best. I would’ve never had the opportunities I had growing up if I would have been living under communism. It wasn’t always easy. Throughout high school and as an adult I worked multiple jobs to help support my parents, then my own family when I married.

My husband and I understand the value of hard work and giving back to your community. We understand the struggles that families go through to create a good life for their children. And we passed those morals on to Janelle.

We raised a strong young woman, and watched her grow into a dedicated, hard-working person, and now an incredible mom. When she was diagnosed with cancer at 28, we were terrified. It’s a parent’s worst nightmare! But we knew she would fight through it, because that’s who she is – she’s a fighter!

I know Janelle is the right person to represent us in Tallahassee. I’ve seen her face the toughest challenges and come out the other side. She's always determined to improve the lives of those around her, and that’s what she’ll do for our community.

This isn’t a typical political email, there’s no financial ask. I’m just asking you to take the time to get to know my daughter, because she wants to get to know you.
I’ve seen firsthand how much Janelle really cares about this community. She was born and raised here, now she’s raising my granddaughters here. She truly understands the issues facing the people who live here, and wants to work to address them.

We need someone like Janelle speaking up for us in the State Senate – she’ll never back down. She’s always taken on every challenge in her life with dedication and determination, and I know she’ll do the same in Tallahassee.
