New Dems Celebrate 25 Years of Getting Things Done for the American People:

  • This week the New Democrat Coalition (NDC) celebrated our 25th anniversary. For the last quarter-century, our members have been focused on breaking through the gridlock in Washington to deliver real results for the American people.
  • Congressional leaders, New Dem alumni, and supporters, helped us mark this major milestone with statements honoring the Coalition’s work to find solutions to our country’s greatest challenges. Read What They’re Saying to Celebrate 25 Years of Delivering Results for the American People here.
  • On Wednesday, the NDC held a press conference with Speaker Pelosi, Leader Hoyer, New Democrat Coalition Leadership, and New Dem Members to celebrate 25 years and look forward to New Dems’ leading the Democratic caucus for the next 25 years. Read the transcript of the press conference here and watch the full press conference here.
  • NDC Chair Suzan DelBene (WA-01) also penned an op-ed in Newsweek on the critical role the NDC has played over the last 25 years in Congress and the importance of mainstream, moderate democrats to the future of American Democracy.
    • The op-ed reads in part, “Protecting our country and truly representing the American people requires us to maintain a Democratic Party that welcomes those who believe in fairness, freedom, and a functioning democracy. Otherwise, we'll lose our governing majority and our republic. In that way, New Dems are a key line of defense against extremism.” Read the full op-ed here

New Dems Push the Department of Commerce for Action on Solar Investigation

  • Members of the New Democrat Coalition, led by Chair Suzan DelBene (WA-01) and Vice Chair for Policy Scott Peters (CA-52), released a statement urging the Department of Commerce to act swiftly in its investigation of solar technology imports. Solar energy is critical to lowering energy costs for families, creating American jobs, and transitioning to a green economy to combat climate change.
  • The statement reads in part, “As the U.S. invests in American research, development, domestic manufacturing, and deployment of clean technology, we will continue to rely on imports in order to reach our climate goals for years to come. We are concerned by reports of delayed and cancelled installations and extensions of fossil fuel plants that otherwise would have been retired. We urge Commerce to act to prioritize resolving this investigation in accordance with the law to protect American jobs and the Administration’s climate strategy.
New Dem Trade Leaders Urge Administration to Reevaluate Costly Tariffs on South Korean Steel
  • Trade policy leaders of the New Democrat Coalition (NDC), led by NDC Chair Suzan DelBene (WA-01) and NDC Trade Task Force Co-Chair Ron Kind (WI-03), sent a letter to Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai urging them to reevaluate the Trump-era Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum and the current quota arrangement on South Korean steel.
  • Rolling back these harmful, Trump-era tariffs will lower prices, support American workers, and strengthen our key global relationships.

ICYMI: New Democrat Coalition’s 25th Anniversary in Real Clear Politics

“When I first came to Congress, someone told me that there are two types of lawmakers: legislators and provocateurs. New Dems are legislators. New Dems care about good policy and getting things done. That’s what most Americans want to see in their legislators” - New Dem Chair Suzan DelBene

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the New Democrat Coalition. AB Stoddard, associate editor of Real Clear Politics and columnist, wrote about the Coalition’s track record over the past quarter century as serious legislators who break through the gridlock to get stuff done in Congress and deliver results for the American people. You can read the full article here.
