I live in Tooting and I'm appalled to discover 18,800 people in my local community are struggling with debts. I've written to my local Parliamentary candidates and you can do the same. We must stop rip-off lending.
People are being forced to rely on credit cards and loans just to buy food and other essentials. Personal debt has reached a staggering £217 billion – its highest ever level.
It’s crucial that whoever your next local MP is they act to end the debt trap. We want every party to promise they will push for urgent action in the next Parliament to:
✋ End rip-off lending by capping interest and charges for loans, credit cards, overdrafts and door-step lending
✔️ Secure a government inquiry into why so little action has been taken
🛑 Put pressure on the Financial Conduct Authority to act
The more of us that take action, the more powerful that message will be.
