Hey everybody. I wanted to give you a quick update on the emergency redistricting process that’s going on right now. You may have heard some news that our campaign is now under threat, and I wanted you to hear directly from me what’s going on.
The whole point of redistricting is to create congressional districts that keep communities of interest together. Unfortunately, the map created by the special master splits NY-16’s historically Black, brown, and working-class neighborhoods into three districts. They’re diluting the voting power of these communities.
To add insult to injury, this week the powerful head of the DCCC, Sean Patrick Maloney, announced he’s selfishly switching districts from the one he already represents to go after our neighboring district. Maloney’s plan is to push two young Black congressmen who’ve fought hard for their communities to run against each other. All so he can run in a slightly more blue seat.
The result of this selfishness from the DCCC chair is we could now be facing an extremely difficult and costly primary in just 95 days. John, I have written you many emails since we first ran in 2019. Few more important than this one.
If we don’t raise a lot of money very urgently, we could lose our seat in Congress. So, I’m asking you personally if you can make your best contribution to our campaign here:

The Democratic Party should not tolerate or condone those who cynically try to dismantle and tear down Black power in Congress. It’s especially disturbing coming from the leader of the DCCC — a man who should be looking to hold as many Democratic seats in the House as possible, not primarying his colleagues opportunistically to move into a slightly safer blue seat.
John, we’ll find out a lot more about how this shakes out over the weekend. But I had to email you now because this is a do-or-die moment, and we need to raise as much as we can to be prepared for the fights ahead.
