I am both honored and excited to announce that Sheldon Lubar, Milwaukee businessman and philanthropist, has endorsed our campaign! He is the founder and Chairman of Lubar & Company, a private investment company in Milwaukee, and a fellow Badger, with degrees in Business Administration and Law from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Mr. Lubar has held governmental appointments under three U.S. Presidents. President Jimmy Carter named him Commissioner of the White House Conference on Small Business in 1979-80. President Richard Nixon appointed him Assistant Secretary, Housing Production and Mortgage Credit, Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration, and Director of the Federal National Mortgage Association, in 1973-74. He completed this service under President Gerald Ford.

“I thought, what do we need? We need a person of integrity and decency who is not just a Republican or a Democrat but who is an American,” Lubar said.

In addition to his many career accomplishments, Mr. Lubar and his wife, Marianne, have provided generous philanthropic support to many organizations in arts and education, including strong support for the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I am inspired by their commitment to giving back and truly grateful for their support.

“Here is a guy who really understands the problems,” facing the country, Lubar said in an interview announcing his Olikara endorsement. “He is a sincere, honest guy.”

Campaign endorsements matter. While I was out collecting signatures for our nomination papers the other night, I spoke with someone who’d seen the article announcing Sheldon Lubar’s endorsement and signed our nomination papers because of it. Our campaign has earned many other endorsements, including the only statewide endorsement in the race, former Wisconsin Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton . Other endorsements include: Kriss Marion , Lafayette County Supervisor, Todd Larson , UN Retiree and Senior Obama Appointee, and Scott Legwold , Brigadier General (retired) US Army/Wisconsin Army National Guard.
