In his own world of chickendom, the rooster is a father, a lover, a food-finder, a guardian, and a sentinel. He was justly praised by a renowned Renaissance writer as “the example of the best and truest father of a family.” But in today’s world, the rooster has been dealt a tragic fate. In this podcast I talk about three roosters I came to know well in our chicken sanctuary, versus the pitiable plight these proud birds endure in the poultry and egg industry and their banishment from the backyard. Thinking Like a Chicken Overview

KAREN DAVIS, PhD is the President and Founder of United Poultry Concerns, a nonprofit organization that promotes the compassionate and respectful treatment of domestic fowl including a sanctuary for chickens in Virginia. Inducted into the National Animal Rights Hall of Fame for Outstanding Contributions to Animal Liberation, Karen is the author of numerous books, essays, articles and campaigns.
