Turning exciting Broad Marsh vision into reality

Lister Square visual

We are keen to continue progress on the Broad Marsh site, moving from a vision that we unveiled at the end of last year, to a master plan for this site which is full of opportunities for Nottingham. Developing this master plan will include assessing in detail the vision presented by the Greater Broad Marsh Advisory Group, led by acclaimed urban designer Thomas Heatherwick to understand what can be delivered. This will help us put a strong submission in for Levelling Up funding from Government.

The site of the former shopping centre presents a unique opportunity for the city to create something special, with a vision that includes reinstating many of Nottingham?s lost streets, a wildlife-rich green space, over 750 new homes, new commercial and mixed use buildings, helping to create 3,000 jobs, retaining some of the structural frame of the shopping centre to create a new recreational space and rejuvenating the city?s unique cave network, with a new entrance and hotel above. The demolition at the west end will be completed and a green space created. ?More here [ [link removed] ]

Other city improvements progressing well

Meanwhile, people can already see the excellent progress being made elsewhere in the Broad Marsh area. These latest photos show how reimagined pedestrian-friendly streets and public spaces are taking shape, heritage-led improvements are completed and a new car park and bus station ? with work on fitting out the new Central Library expected to begin soon [ [link removed] ] - as well as a great new college.

We have demolished a large part of the former shopping centre, part of which will be developed into a new public space linking the Broad Marsh area with the city centre. It?s already becoming a place where you can relax and linger, rather than hurry through as it was in the past.

City Council reports smallest pay gaps among Core City councils

Loxley House

I?m really proud that Nottingham City Council is leading the way when it comes to closing pay gaps. We have the smallest average gender pay gap among Core City councils and lower than many local public sector organisations. We are one of only a handful of councils who are taking a proactive approach to reporting pay gap data relating to disability and ethnicity as well as gender, to help us make improvements.

It?s another part of our transformation and improvement as an organisation, with all staff being given the opportunities to play their part and reach their potential. Our figures have improved since last year, but we are not complacent and will continue to work hard to further close the pay gaps.

Last opportunities to have your say on Victoria Market

What's on listings

This weekend will be the third in a series of public consultation meetings where people can respond to our proposal to review the operation of Victoria Market. The first two meetings have gone well with people offering helpful ideas on the future and we have been able to explain a few of the issues in more detail. Anybody interested in the proposals is invited to Victoria Market tomorrow (Saturday) between 10am and 11am to discuss any issues, and to ask any questions. We can also help you fill in the consultation questionnaire (either a paper copy or online). We would also like to welcome and support people who perhaps don?t speak English as a first language. Tackling climate change is a key priority for Nottingham, that?s why we?ve committed to becoming the first carbon neutral city in the UK by 2028. This effort is not just a priority for the council ? we?re encouraging everyone to get involved.

We want to know what you think about our CN28 ambition, so the Carbon Neutral Policy Team are hosting online focus groups with the support of researchers at Nottingham Trent University. These 1.5-hour sessions will give you the opportunity to tell us your thoughts and to share any ideas you have for making Nottingham a greener city. Big Spring Clean

Sneinton litter pick

We all want to see positive changes to where we live ? cleaner streets, less dog mess, fly-tipped rubbish and graffiti.? Our wonderful residents have always gone above and beyond in their efforts to help our fantastic street-cleansing staff in making sure Nottingham is a city to be proud of. Our Clean Champions, local Councillors and clean crews have done us proud in the past few weeks with litter picks and Big Spring Cleans taking part around the city.

Thanks to everyone who took part in litter picks in Bulwell Bogs, Carrington, Sneinton, Leen Valley and Sherwood.

We have plenty more coming up to get involved in - including two this Saturday in Radford and Bulwell.

I?m involved in a Dales Ward Big Spring Clean next Friday with lots of litter picking over Friday and Saturday to support our wonderful council staff who do this day in day out. I would be keen to hear from you how you help to keep your bit of the city clean and tidy. Let me know by replying to this email
