News from Representative Allred

Dear Friend,

Yesterday I helped pass two emergency measures to address the infant formula shortage. As a dad, I know how stressful it is when you can't get what your baby needs. That’s why I voted to authorize emergency funding to give the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the resources it needs to urgently address the infant formula shortage, strengthen the workforce focused on formula issues, and increase FDA inspection staff to help prevent something like this from ever happening again.

In addition, I helped pass the Access to Baby Formula Act, which expands the safe formula options available to participants in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program.

Has the infant formula shortage impacted you or a parent you know?

This crisis will take a whole of government approach to address and yesterday, President Biden announced he is invoking the Defense Production Act to quickly boost production and is using military aircraft to import formula. This is in addition to urging the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general to crack down on price gouging and working with private companies to increase production and supply.

Sadly, during this national crisis, bad actors are preying on desperate families by buying up formula and reselling it at astronomically high prices. I led my colleagues in an effort to urge the Texas Attorney General to use the full weight of the law to crack down on price gouging of baby formula. I encourage you to report price gouging here.

If you or a parent you know needs help finding formula, please visit www.hhs.gov/formula. I will continue to do everything possible to end this shortage and ensure North Texas parents have access to formula to feed their babies.

Sincerely,
