The Supreme Court made clear they plan to overturn Roe v Wade. Planned Parenthood and its allies have organized protests but Planned Parenthood’s message is often just “vote for Democrats,” which has proven insufficient for stopping this threat to our rights.
The Democrats currently control the White House, House, and Senate, and have failed twice to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would codify Roe v Wade into law. Obama promised to pass similar legislation but failed to deliver, despite having a filibuster-proof majority in Congress. Nor have the Democrats exercised their power to expand the Supreme Court to put a progressive majority on the court.
It’s clear we can’t rely on the Democratic Party to defend and expand reproductive rights. What’s needed is a mass movement of everyday working people and youth, but how can we build that movement? What’s needed to stop the Supreme Court from overturning Roe v Wade? What can we do in Seattle? What is socialist feminism? And how is that different?
