Dear John ,
In April of 2010, the world watched in horror as unimaginable flames shot out of BP's Deepwater Horizon.
For months, we saw pictures of oil-soaked fish, birds, and wildlife flash before our eyes. We were left with an eerie, everlasting reminder of the devastating toll gigantic corporations like BP have on our planet.
It was a catastrophe that every Democrat should work to prevent from happening ever again.
It was a catastrophe that should have united us as a Party along with anyone and everyone working to combat the climate crisis.
But in July of that very same year, Dina Titus voted to end the federal moratorium on deepwater drilling. [1]
As outrageous as that vote was on its own, it was unfortunately just the start.
After supporting the oil and gas companies responsible for Deepwater Horizon and the destruction of our planet, she then joined 154 Republicans to do the bidding of massive private mining companies to vote down H.R. 3534, the Consolidated Land, Energy, and Aquatic Resources Act. [2]
That’s right. Dina Titus voted to eliminate public review of hard rock mining on our federally managed public lands.
Don’t just take our word for it though! Even the League of Conservation Voters called her out for voting against the interests of working people and our planet. [3]
With this kind of voting record, it is no wonder why Dina Titus is opposed to transformative legislation like a Green New Deal.
Nevada is on the frontlines of both our global climate crisis AND our national housing crisis. As temperatures continue to soar and Lake Mead drops to new dangerous lows with each passing day, we simply can’t afford to continue empowering entrenched, establishment politicians like Dina Titus to do the bidding of greedy mining corporations and real estate developers.
In less than two weeks, polls open for early voting, and the working people of Nevada’s new First Congressional District have an opportunity to put an end to Dina Titus’s pay-to-play leadership by electing Amy Vilela.
Amy Vilela’s campaign isn’t funded by Big Mining or Real Estate. In fact, Amy has never and will never take a single cent of corporate money—because she knows what’s at stake.
Amy Vilela is running to finally put people over profit.
Amy Vilela is the climate champion Nevadans need.
Sincerely,
Team Vilela
