Hi John,
Real talk: Most of us aren't getting the mental health care we need.
Over half of adults with a mental health condition aren’t getting treatment. That's over 27 million people.
This is nothing short of a crisis, and we need all hands on deck — including state and local elected officials.
Help inspire and elect diverse young candidates who know how important accessible mental health care is.

The data on mental health isn't great. International reports show increases in anxiety and depression during the first year of the pandemic, particularly among women and young people. And even before the pandemic, suicide rates for preteens, teens, and young adults had increased by 57.4% from 2007 to 2018.
We
need diverse young progressives in office who understand the importance of mental health in order to change these statistics.
Every office really can make a difference:
- School boards can increase funding for mental health services.
- Mayors and city councils can work with local nonprofits to expand low-cost mental health services.
- State governments and supreme courts can create and expand mental health support for those who need care, not prison time.
- State legislatures can ban harmful practices like "conversion therapy" and, instead of passing laws that isolate and ban life-saving medical treatment for trans kids, make their states welcoming and affirming places.
It is vital that we see candidates in state and local government who understand that access to comprehensive, affordable mental health care is how we make healthy and safe communities.
Run for Something is recruiting and supporting diverse young progressives to run for office who value mental health care access. Chip in

or whatever you can to elect more mental health-conscious candidates and help get this crisis under control.
