John,
The first time I read about “Great Replacement Theory” was doing research on my 2018 congressional opponent, Steve King. But to see it go from fringe to mainstream in just a few years is deeply troubling and dangerous.
What happened in Buffalo breaks my heart, John. A grandmother who spent every Saturday running a food pantry for folks in need. A father who was picking up a birthday cake for his son. A sister who helped care for her brother who was suffering from Leukemia.
They should all still be alive today, John.
We need to root out racism and hatred wherever we encounter it. We need to stand up to hateful rhetoric spewed by media personalities and politicians. And we need to stop electing people who want to divide us based on our differences, rather than bring us together.
Democrats need to counter the hate from the extreme right with love and acceptance. And we need to organize everywhere, build an infrastructure of messengers and call the bigotry and hatred out. We can’t let the poison fester in our society.
We are facing a crossroads as a nation, John. We can build an America that loves and accepts all of its people, or we can allow extremism and racism to divide us.
It’s up to us.
Standing Tall for All,
J.D. Scholten
