During the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, American billionaires increased their wealth by over $5 trillion, while everyday people faced mass unemployment and struggled to afford their most basic needs. Yet many of these billionaires pay less in taxes than restaurant workers and teachers.
Right now, Congress has the opportunity to level the playing field. We can pass a billionaires income tax to help reinvest in America and revitalize our economy. Will you stand with me and send a message to Congress? Sign if you agree: It’s time to tax billionaires.
As many of you know, I was co-chair of Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign and support many of the same policies that Bernie supports. I represent a district in the heart of Silicon Valley with arguably more billionaires than any other district in the country. If I can support these policies, then my colleagues who represent suburban and rural parts of the country can too. But I need to show them that the people are with me.
