Please urge your Senators and Representatives to co-sponsor and support the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act. S. 2372 and H.R. 2773 are bipartisan initiatives that would provide an essential infusion of funds directed at recovering Virginia’s declining populations of birds and other wildlife. The bill would invest $1.3 billion in state-level conservation and $97.5 million to tribal efforts. Because Representative Abigail Spanberger has already signed on as co-sponsor to H.R. 2773 please write her to thank her for supporting this critical bill.

Please make sure to ask for a response and let us ([link removed]) know whether your legislators are willing to co-sponsor and vote for this essential bill.
Here are some points you can make in your letter.
* The bill would direct funds to Virginia’s Department of Natural Resources to expand programs to save at-risk bird populations and other wildlife. Virginia’s Wildlife Action Plan ([link removed]) identifies 28 species of birds in Northern Virginia in need of conservation. In 2015, 13 of those species were identified as needing active management to avoid extinction.
* The latest science ([link removed]) shows rapidly declining numbers of wild birds, with three billion fewer birds in North America than in 1970, a loss of more than one in four birds.
* Restoring habitat, and preserving and creating biodiversity are essential ([link removed]) to social well-being and human health—physical, mental and spiritual. Biodiversity supports environmental resilience, from the microbes that contribute to the formation of the human biome to the genes that help us adapt to stress in the environment, and it supports livelihoods.
