Year of the Tiger is in full swing as we spotlight cats of all sizes

Year of the Tiger is in full swing with our newest campaign
[link removed]

In our newest campaign ([link removed]) in partnership with the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park (NCTLNP) and China Wildlife Conservation Association, Chinese martial artist, actor, film director and WildAid ambassador Wu Jing calls for protecting Siberian tigers and their habitats. The PSA focuses on rangers to spotlight local tiger conservation efforts, including the achievements made by the NCTLNP in restoring and protecting the ecosystem, cracking down on wildlife crime, and protecting flagship species such as the Siberian tiger. The campaign was launched across 20 Chinese cities and the online PSA received over 3.3 million views on Weibo in its first week.
Cats are telling their "hoomans" to say no to shark fin

In partnership with WWF Thailand, we launched ‘Cats for Sharks’, a digital campaign that enlists cats as advocates for sharks. The campaign leverages cats’ internet popularity to appeal to the public and inform viewers of how the consumption of sharks is leading to species disappearance and to harmful impacts on the oceans, which could drastically impact the seafood most cats and humans eat. The campaign invites pet lovers to create a campaign photo on www.catsforsharks.com ([link removed]) and share it on their social media with hashtags #CatsForSharks #PleaseStopEatingSharks to help educate and discourage the consumption of sharks among friends and family.

Save pangolins by reporting wildlife crime

For this year’s World Pangolin Day, we launched a major public awareness campaign in Cameroon aimed at protecting the endangered pangolin in partnership with the Ministry of Forests and Wildlife (MINFOF) and the Ministry of Sport and Physical Education (MINSEP). The campaign, that highlights the illegal and unsustainable use of pangolins in the bushmeat trade and the risks of zoonotic disease transmission, has already reached over 200,000 people online. Results of two new public attitudinal surveys ([link removed]) were also released, which underscore the high level of bushmeat consumption and low awareness of laws protecting pangolins, along with high levels of pride for Cameroon’s forests and rich natural heritage.
Speaking up to help Africa's most threatened big cat

With climate change and population growth putting increasing pressure on the environment, cheetahs face unprecedented threats to their survival. We filmed a mini documentary ([link removed]) as Award-winning singer-songwriter and WildAid South Africa Ambassador, Shekhinah, visits Ashia Cheetah Centre in the Western Cape province of South Africa to learn more about the plight of cheetahs in Africa and around the world, and to add her support to help protect Africa’s most threatened big cat.

WildAid's Marine Program Director, Meaghan Brosnan, was an honored attendee at the 2022 Our Ocean Conference ([link removed]) last week with two special commitments from WildAid, including commitments to 1) continue to support the Palau Protected Areas Network (PAN) ([link removed]) in the implementation of a PAN Rangers Conservation Academy and 2) provide $8 million to support for leaders of at least 100 marine areas by 2024 ([link removed]) , ([link removed]) helping them to design and apply effective enforcement solutions to deter illegal fishing and strengthen their marine areas’ protections. The conference was co-hosted by the Republic of Palau and the United States (a first for a small-island nation). Throughout the six previous conferences, participants have made more than 1,400 commitments for ocean conservation, worth approximately $91.4 billion, and protected at least five million
square miles of ocean.
