We need to fight for drastic changes to New York’s minimum wage and labor legislation!

Friend,
New Yorkers need a raise, and they needed it yesterday.

New York’s $15 minimum wage has become unlivable; a challenge made that much more difficult by historically high inflation. Even before inflation reached new heights, two in five minimum-wage income households ([link removed]) in New York lacked the income to cover basic necessities like housing, food, and heat.

That’s why I proposed and continue to fight hard to pass Senate Bill S3062, a bill ([link removed]) that would increase the minimum wage to $20.45 by 2025, using a formula impacted by inflation each year. You can read more about the bill here. ([link removed])

I am proud to represent a city that is often at the forefront of just and humane economic policy – but we are lagging far behind on this issue. Thirty-three cities and counties have wages above $15 an hour as of January 2022, and eleven more will pass $15 later in 2022. Major cities like Seattle, San Francisco, and five others will have minimum wages of about $17 or higher in 2022.
SUPPORT $20.45 BY 2025 ([link removed])

New Yorkers have needed a more livable minimum wage for a long time, now more than ever. This is a solution for tomorrow, next year, and all the way into 2025.

These basic fair labor practices are long past due, and rest assured, I will keep fighting for them in Albany.

In Solidarity,

Jessica Ramos
