Social Security and Medicare have long been key to ensuring a stable life for Montanans and Americans — but corporate aligned and often corrupt forces in our government are constantly putting these programs in limbo.
Ryan Zinke, as we all know by now, is no different. He will work with corporate shills from the Republican Party to cut Social Security and Medicare the first chance they get. That’s why we must make absolutely sure Dems everywhere will not be selling out to corporate interests and will be going all in on our fight to give people health care and make their economic lives less precarious.
This goes beyond any one candidate. I have been vocal about my support for these vital programs, and that’s why I'm calling on my fellow Democrats in this primary to join progressives everywhere throughout the country in committing to protecting and expanding Social Security and Medicare for generations to come.
Let’s show our primary opponents that Democrats everywhere are committed to protecting Social Security and Medicare, and they need to get on board too. If this pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that we can no longer look people in the eye who have lost parents, coworkers, children, and more because of our broken health care system and tell them, “Well, we’re going to work on it.”
That’s plain wrong. It’s inhumane. Politicians cannot keep making empty promises — especially when it comes to our health care system and the other few remaining institutions that make our lives less precarious.
Let’s face it. Medicare for All is part of the Democratic platform. I proudly support it — and the majority of progressives support it, too. That’s why at the very least, it’s time for everyone to get on board with protecting and expanding Social Security and Medicare.
