John, we f*cking did it.
This election pit people power against millions of dollars, and last night, Summer Lee proved that money *is* surmountable when you organize and run on a progressive platform.
Young and working people were able to defeat Super PACs through local organizing: we showed our power, knocked on doors, called voters, and won this election. And in doing the real work of the Democratic Party, we are going to use this momentum to elect Jessica Cisneros, defeat Henry Cuellar, and finally remove the last anti-abortion House Democrat.
But this work takes real resources — and if we’re going to be successful in Texas next Tuesday, we can’t rest for a single second. Can you chip in $10 or whatever you can afford to sustain our electoral organizing for our GND champions?
The party must take this result as a lesson, John. If you want to win, run on bold climate policies that will not only turn out young people but build the momentum needed to build long-term organizing infrastructure. I'm proud to say the Green New Deal wins in Pennsylvania.
We are so proud to have supported Nida Allam and Erica Smith in North Carolina, despite being up against a historic $18 million dollars in Super PAC money, a Democratic trifecta that has given voters nothing to hope for, and an establishment that let those same Super PACs silence young people.
But we are celebrating Sunrise North Carolina and Sunrise Durham, who recruited hundreds of new volunteers, made thousands of dials to voters, and knocked on doors across the community — their fight continues because we have a whole world to win.
Next week, Democrats have a choice to make. Instead of sticking to the sidelines, they can join the majority and support Jessica Cisneros in TX-28. That means supporting the SOLE PRO-CHOICE candidate in the race. Supporting the candidate that will fight for people over corporate interests from fossil fuel billionaires, Big Pharma, and anti-immigration corporations.
We’ll be fighting for our futures in next week’s election. If you’re ready to win the world we deserve by continuing to elect leaders who actually give a sh*t about our communities and our climate, chip in $10 or any amount to Sunrise today.
In solidarity,
Varshini, Sunrise
