OCA Condemns Gun Violence and Hatred, Joins Communities in Mourning
Asian American communities across the country stand with the Black community in condemning white supremacy and hate, which has spurred continuous violence.
Washington, D.C. — OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates released the following statement in light of recent shootings in Dallas, TX, Buffalo, NY, and Laguna Woods and Los Angeles, CA:
“OCA sends the victims and their families our deepest condolences,” said OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates National President Linda Ng. “It is devastating that we must continue to mourn lives that have been destroyed or lost due to heinous acts of violence. While law enforcement have recognized the Buffalo and Dallas shootings as racially motivated hate crimes, there continue to be thousands of acts of hate across the country that go unrecognized as such. Now, more than ever, we need allies and bystanders to lend their voices against hate, discrimination, and bias.”
“Our Black, Asian, and other marginalized communities may be different in many ways but hate towards all of us looks the same,” said OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates National Executive Director Thu Nguyen. “This hate is fueled by nonsensical fear-mongering and scapegoating rooted in white supremacy, aimed to drive a wedge between our communities. However, we stand firmly united with our Black and brown, LGBTQ+, disabled, and other marginalized siblings. We will continue to fight for safety, justice, and equity.”
