Hi John,
Thanks to your support, we were able to rush donations over to our candidates in North Carolina ahead of yesterday’s election. We continued to send funds to Jasmine Beach-Ferrara and Erica Smith until polls closed last night. These races were both extremely critical, and we wanted to share the results.
Good news: Jasmine Beach-Ferrara, running for NC-11, claimed a major victory as the Democratic nominee for the seat formerly filled by Trump’s disgraced pick Madison Cawthorn. If she wins in November, she will be the first woman in history to represent this district.
We must keep up the momentum to ensure Jasmine Beach-Ferrara wins against her extremist opponent in November. Will you help us support her campaign by contributing $35 today?
She is now preparing for a tough general election against dark money-funded, GOP-backed Chuck Edwards, who beat out Cawthorn in the Republican primary last night. If he wins in November, Edwards has stated his focus will be on “restoring the policies that we enjoyed under the Trump administration.” HBM will continue our support programs for Jasmine ahead of this general – and we hope you’ll help us!

Bad news: Our candidate, Erica Smith, lost her race to an anti-choice “Democratic” opponent in NC-01. We cannot underscore how troubling this is. This loss means Democrats have officially lost one more pro-choice vote in Congress – and we are seeing a trend of more anti-choice “Democrats” running in primaries across the nation, including in blue districts.
We want to be clear about something: Erica did not have the support she needed. **She did not have the critical support from other feminist organizations who should have been laser-focused on this race.**
The status quo will no longer cut it. We need pro-choice CHAMPIONS in Congress right now.
The tradition of focusing on Democratic wins is meaningless if those “Democrats” won’t lead with Democratic values.
We remain committed to our promise of supporting pro-choice female candidates *no matter how much money they’ve raised*. If other feminist organizations had the same commitment, the outcome of last night’s election might have been different. We might not have lost a critical pro-choice voice in a blue district.
Next steps: There are elections with similar dynamics happening in Texas on Tuesday, and we urgently need your help to elect two progressive candidates: Jessica Cisneros, who is running against the only anti-choice “Democrat” currently seated in the U.S. House of Reps and Claudia Zapata, who is running to unseat far-right extremist Chip Roy.
We will not give up this fight. Anti-choice Democrats are running in elections across the country – and winning. Our goal is to raise $10,000 for our pro-choice candidates by the Texas runoff election on May 24. Will you help us reach that goal by contributing $35 or more today?
