We did it, team! I’m so honored to have secured the Democratic nomination for NC-11. And I’m honored that we won all 15 counties across WNC.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. You have stepped up with us every step of the way for the past 14 months of campaigning and organizing everywhere. From knocking doors, to making calls, to digging deep to make another donation, you’ve shown us you are all in.

With your help, we’ve proven yet again that a gay woman, Christian minister, and mom of three can win in the South, and although we’re celebrating and resting today, the next phase of our work is now beginning.

The Republican primary was a very close call, and we’re pleased to report that Madison Cawthorn lost.

I’ll be facing Republican State Senator Chuck Edwards in the general election. Edwards and Cawthorn have a lot in common when it comes to their politics - and their brand of extremism does not represent the values of WNC.

We have been planning for the general election since day one of our campaign. Now, our campaign to deliver real leadership to Western North Carolina enters a new phase, and we need to give it our all over these next few months. That starts with meeting every fundraising goal that we set from now until November.

Now that I’m officially the Democratic nominee, special interests will be flooding this race with outside spending to support Edwards. They know NC-11 is critical to taking back the House majority so they’ll do and spend whatever it takes to support Edwards’ campaign.
