Dear Supporters,

The agenda for Clear the Vapor 2022 is now available. Click to view and register if you haven't.

Parents Against Vaping e-cigarettes is so proud to have Truth Initiative®, America’s largest nonprofit public health organization dedicated to achieving a culture where young people reject smoking, vaping and nicotine, as a lead sponsor of Clear the Vapor 2022.

Truth Initiative is behind the proven-effective and nationally-recognized truth® youth tobacco prevention public education campaign. The organization also provides rigorous scientific research and policy studies, community and youth engagement programs supporting populations at high risk of using tobacco products, and innovations to end nicotine addiction by helping people quit. This work includes:

  • Exposing the facts and arming young people with the truth. Most recently, the truth campaign exposed the connection between vaping nicotine and youth mental health as part of It’s Messing with Our Heads campaign, which launched on the heels of Surgeon General Vivek Murthy issuing an advisory on the state of mental health among young people as an “urgent public health crisis,” and coinciding with the on-going youth e-cigarette epidemic. The latest effort as part of that campaign, Breath of Stress Air, flips the script and debunks the myth of nicotine so that young people can see vaping nicotine for what it can be: an amplifier – not an alleviator – of stress. Young people nationwide are also joining truth in a nationwide movement calling attention to the impact that vaping nicotine is having on youth mental health and demanding that decision-makers declare it a mental health issue. Young people can text “ACTION” to 88709 to get involved.

  • Providing free and effective resources to help young people quit. Through the free and anonymous text message program This is Quitting®, truth is helping nearly 500,000 young people quit vaping nicotine. Created with input from young people, This is Quitting meets teens and young adults on the platforms they use most. A recent clinical trial shows This Is Quitting increased e-cigarette quit vaping rates by nearly 40% among young adults aged 18-24 compared to a control group. Young people can access the program by texting “DITCHVAPE” to 88709. A complimentary parent component to the program is also available at BecomeAnEX.org.

  • Addressing Vaping in schools. Vaping: Know the truth is a free, digital, self-led curriculum to educate students on the risks of e-cigarette use and help those already vaping to quit. The curriculum includes real testimonials from young people and helps teachers navigate how to educate young people about the dangers associated with e-cigarette use and vaping. With the growing need for mental health support, the program also discusses self-care and mental health. It seamlessly connects young people with free resources, including This is Quitting.

  • Spotlighting tobacco industry infiltration to push for change. Smoking on the small screen has gone from common to nearly unavoidable and exposure to tobacco images is associated with young people starting to smoke and vape. An annual report, While You Were Streaming, documents the prevalence of tobacco imagery and calls for reasonable guidelines and policy practices to be put in place to help protect our nation’s youth.

Truth Initiative also helps millions of adult smokers with digital quit programs including BecomeAnEX® and the EX Program®, an enterprise-level, digital health program for tobacco addiction for employers and health plans.

Young people deserve access to the facts about smoking, vaping, and nicotine, and everyone deserves access to help if they are already addicted and want to quit. By investigating, exposing, and amplifying the truth about tobacco, Truth Initiative is building a world where young people reject tobacco, and anyone can quit.

Stay up-to-date on the latest news, research, and policy analysis on smoking, vaping, and nicotine use, as well as resources and tools designed specifically for young people.
