Thanksgiving 2019
Thanksgiving is a uniquely American holiday and tradition. Its roots trace back to the Plymouth Colony in present-day Massachusetts. After their arrival in 1619, some 400 years ago, the Plymouth colonists established a farming community based on the Mayflower Compact that can only be described as the first attempt at a socialized government in the New World. Due to the lack of a profit motive and other deleterious effects of socialized government on the business interests and work ethic of the Pilgrims, their first harvest was a complete failure. Their governing structure was then re-worked. The following year saw a bumper crop, culminating in the celebration of a harvest feast to which the local native tribes were invited as guests of honor. This was appropriate, as the locals had helped the Pilgrims through the winter of their arrival and the winter after their failed harvest.

In honor of our early American forebears, our tradition has somehow metamorphosized into watching football and overeating. But please, while following tradition, remember to take a moment to give thanks for that which we have, and that which we are!

As the House of Representatives takes its vacation from impeachment proceedings, which in turn are too urgent to wait for and abide by Court rulings (as was explained in this space on Monday), the Republican Party of Florida asks you to consider the following, including talking points guaranteed to keep your Thanksgiving table lively (NOTE: these are RPOF talking points; the Indian River County Republican Executive Committee disclaims any liability for broken dishes, broken bones, broken families, or any other damages arising from the use of these talking points during the Thanksgiving Holiday Season):

The following information came from POLITICO article published 10/3/2019

  • Impeachment always starts in the House.
    • The sitting Speaker of the House must give her approval for impeachment proceedings.
  • House committees investigate and write articles of impeachment.
    • If the Judiciary Committee approves any articles of impeachment, the full House will vote on the charges against the president.
  • A majority vote in the House is needed to impeach.
    • At least 218 out of the 435 representatives are needed to approve any of the articles of impeachment presented by the Judiciary Committee.
  • If the House impeaches the president, the Senate holds a trial.
    • At the outset, the Senate passes a resolution setting trial procedures and how to handle witness testimony and evidence.
    • Typically, members of the House Judiciary Committee manage the argument for impeachment and the president has his own defense lawyers on the floor.
  • After the trial, the Senate votes.
    • A two-thirds majority or 67 of 100 senators is needed for the president to be convicted and removed from office.

Impeachment Talking Points [N.B.: use at your own risk]:

  • The Democrats' process remains tainted, unfair, and unprecedented.
  • Democrats continue to move the goal posts and are not providing President Trump with basic due process rights.
  • From the very moment President Trump took office, Democrats were set on impeachment.
    • Democrats know they cannot beat President Trump in 2016 so are turning to this sham partisan impeachment inquiry.
  • After 3 days of public testimony and 9 witnesses, the facts remain:
    • The July 25th call transcript - released to the public - shows no evidence of pressure or quid pro quo.
    • Both President Zelensky and President Trump have said there was no pressure on the call.
    • At the time of the July 25th call, the Ukrainian government did not know aid was withheld.
    • Aid was received with no conditions.
  • Everyone is tired of this impeachment sham and polls are continuing to show this.
    • A new Emerson poll shows support for impeachment has flipped since October from 48% support with 44% opposing to now 45% opposed and 43% in support.
      • The biggest swing is among Independents, who oppose impeachment now 49% to 34%, which is a reversal from October where they supported impeachment 48% to 39%.
    • Politico- Morning Consult Poll showed opposition by independents to the House's ongoing impeachment inquiry jumped 10 points last week.
    • NPR reported that Americans overwhelmingly say the impeachment hearings won't change their minds.
    • A Marquette University Poll shows support for impeachment has slipped in a key 2020 battleground state.
    • Gallup found that President Trump's approval rating is improving since their end of October poll.
    • Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's polling of suburban voters showed there was more support for dropping the inquiry than supporting it.
  • These public polls are matching RNC internal polling which shows:
    • The President's approval is the highest it's been since the impeachment sham began.
    • Opposition to impeachment is growing.
    • Most voters want Biden investigated. This includes over 1/3rd of Dems.
  • Impeachment backlash has fueled the RNC's fundraising. In October, the RNC brought in $25.3 million and has $61.4 million cash on hand.
  • Many House Democrats in Trump won Congressional Districts came to Washington pledging to work with President Trump and Republicans. They will have to answer to their constituents in November 2020.
  • It's time that Democrats get over the results of the 2016 election and get back to the issues that matter most to the American people.
    • Democrats should focus on working with Republicans to ratify the USMCA which would boost the economy and create 176,000 jobs and add $68.2 billion to the U.S. economy.
