Dear John,
Ground-level ozone pollution (smog) is harmful to human health and is linked to premature deaths, hospitalizations, asthma attacks, heart attacks, emergency room visits and other serious illnesses.
And while major polluters — such as coal plants and industrial facilities — may be working in a neighboring state, their emissions may be closer to home than you’d think. In fact, smog pollution can travel hundreds of miles, leaving communities and millions of people vulnerable to upwind pollution from our worst emitters. That’s why the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed the “Good Neighbor Plan” — a new policy that will slash cross state air pollution and protect our communities from health-harming smog.
Take action today and submit a public comment showing your support for the “Good Neighbor Plan” and the health of your community! [link removed]
EPA’s proposal updates a system that has successfully cleaned up some of the worst air pollution in the eastern U.S. for a decade. If approved, the “Good Neighbor Plan” will raise emissions standards and deploy proven, cost-effective technologies to help limit pollution from power plants and industrial facilities across the nation.
These efforts will protect millions of Americans who are unknowingly subjected to dangerous pollution from coal plant smokestacks in upwind states — including communities of color and low wealth communities who are disproportionately affected by every source of pollution.
The “Good Neighbor Plan” is a huge step forward for public health and environmental justice. We must urge the EPA to quickly finalize this proposal so we can provide clean air for every community! [link removed]
Thank you for your climate leadership,
Wes Rogerson
