John, if you need any indication of how far to the right Trump
has dragged the Republican Party, consider for a moment the results of
last night’s Senate primary in North Carolina.

Pat McCrory, the former GOP governor running for Senate, lost. Bear in
mind, his term included:

* Signing a transphobic “bathroom bill” into law
* Banning sanctuary cities
* Cutting emergency food assistance for undocumented people
* Reducing unemployment benefits
* Restricting abortion
* And failing to concede the election he lost in 2016 until nearly a
month later

And yet, that guy LOST... because Republicans labeled him as “too liberal”
and a “RINO.” No, I’m not kidding.

Instead, Trump’s MAGA base nominated his handpicked candidate, House
Freedom Caucus member and local gun store owner Rep. Ted Budd, to run
against Democratic nominee Cheri Beasley.

North Carolina with everything we’ve got, you can split a donation between
her campaign and ours now. But if you’re not convinced yet, please read
on. This is a compelling race with an historic candidate — and strong
indications that we can win.

Before running for Senate, Cheri made history as the first Black woman
ever to serve as Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. And
polling has her neck-and-neck with the Republican in this race.

Not only that, Cheri has pledged her support for abolishing the filibuster
so that we can codify Roe v. Wade, protect voting rights, and defend our
democracy.

You know the stakes. Both our House and Senate majorities are on the line.
Ever since Donald Trump left office, Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell
have embraced the far-right and invested hundreds of millions of dollars
to gain control of Congress.

Trump has already rallied voters in North Carolina, attacking me
personally to rouse them into a fury, and there’s no doubt he’ll be back
in the coming months to repeatedly attack Cheri’s campaign. Ensuring she
has the resources to respond to Trump’s attacks and McConnell’s Super PAC
is crucial to helping her win — that’s why today needs to be a big day for
her campaign.

[ [link removed] ]John, can you split a $10 donation today between Cheri
Beasley’s campaign and ours to help us protect and expand our Democratic
majorities?

If Cheri wins, she’ll replace a retiring Republican and grow our
Democratic power in the Senate. She’s been advocating for North Carolina
communities for years, and I know her work as Chief Justice protecting our
constitutional rights will be incredibly important in strengthening our
democracy.

Thank you for being a part of our movement. And standing with this
democracy defender.
