In the fall of 2021, a major oil spill off the coast of Orange County leaked tens of thousands of gallons of crude oil into our oceans and beaches. This tragedy not only noxiously polluted our coastal ecosystem and killed countless wildlife but also devastated local tourism-based beach economies.

Listen, California cannot sustain another environmental catastrophe like this one.

To that end, we’re calling on the California State Senate to immediately pass Senator David Min’s proposed bill SB 953 to end offshore drilling in the state:

Ending offshore drilling just makes sense, truly. For far too long, the oil industry has wreaked havoc on our communities and wildlife.

By systematically lying about their role in causing climate change and environmental devastation from oil spills, these corporate polluters continue to prioritize profits over people. 

It’s time we end these toxic, high-risk practices and tell the government we won’t stand for offshore drilling.

Current oil production in federal and state waters in California only makes up as little as 0.3% of annual production in the United States. Continuing this dangerous practice is simply not worth the environmental risk.
