Hi there,
As our world and our economy changes, access to ongoing education is increasingly necessary to thrive. For some Americans that will mean college. For others, trade schools and apprenticeships. But for too many of us that opportunity is out of reach. That’s why Pete has a plan to make college affordable for everyone who wants to attend -- and to create massive investments in workforce development for those who choose not to go to college as well.
We know that our supporters (people like you!) are the very best messengers for this campaign and for Pete’s bold vision for the future. We want to make sure you have all the information you need to talk to your family and friends about why Pete is the leader we need.
We put together a quick explainer on Pete’s plan to eliminate cost as a barrier to a college education. Take a look:
As president, Pete will make college free for those who need it -- and affordable for everyone.
Pete will make public tuition free for 80% of American families, including all families earning up to $100,000 and many middle-income families with multiple children. His plan will not be subsidizing college for the children of millionaires and billionaires.
He will also provide substantial tuition subsidies for students from families earning up to $150,000 and require that states improve affordability for all students.
Pete will double apprenticeship opportunities and ensure an apprenticeship program in a growing industry like IT, health care, and clean energy is available within 30 miles of every American.
As President, Pete will make substantial investments in the Pell Grant Program.
The federal Pell Grant used to cover nearly 80 percent of the cost of tuition, fees, and room and board; today, it covers just 29 percent.
Pete will tie Pell Grants to inflation to keep up with rising tuition and living costs, and immediately increase the size of the maximum Pell Grant by $1,000. This will ensure that after we've covered tuition for the lowest-income students, there is enough left over for basic necessities like housing and food.
He will also guarantee funding for Pell Grants through mandatory entitlement spending.
As President, Pete will invest an additional $50 billion in HBCUs, Tribal Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-serving Institutions and other minority-serving institutions over the next decade.
In addition to supporting capital and instructional costs, funds may be used for need-based aid to reduce student debt burdens, support student needs, and promote college completion.
With this plan, Pete will enable 10 million more students to graduate with high-quality college degrees and credentials over the next decade -- and open up doors for families across the country.
Now, we need your help in two ways:
First, please let your family and friends know about Pete’s plan for higher education.
Second, please make a contribution to ensure we can keep up our momentum over the holidays.
