As we celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow and the holiday season begins, I want to express my sincere gratitude for you, our nation, and the values that guide us.

No matter who we are or where we come from, we are all bound together by the American promise: The idea that if you work hard, you can earn the chance to get ahead.

That promise rings true for people like my parents — clerical and construction workers who immigrated from Mexico — who worked hard and built a modest life of success. And it’s a promise I fight to defend for all people as California’s Attorney General.

As we gather with friends and loved ones tomorrow and over the coming days and weeks, I wish you a joyful holiday season. I am grateful for you, the progressive values that power us forward, and the vibrancy and strength of the nation we call home.
