Opportunity London

London Councils will be attending the UK’s Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF) this week (17-19 May) as part of Opportunity London to promote the economic development strategies and investment opportunities across London boroughs and showcasing some of the best developments already being brought forward.

Opportunity London is a new initiative promoting sustainable investment into real estate, regeneration and green infrastructure across London’s boroughs and communities.

Opportunity London is led by the Mayor of London, London Councils and The City of London Corporation and backed by a partnership of public and private sector organisations committed to delivering good growth in London. It is delivered in partnership by New London Architecture, London Communications Agency and London & Partners.

Council AGMs

LB Hillingdon last week (12 May) became the first council since the London borough elections to hold its AGM.

The meeting saw Cllr Ian Edwards reappointed as Leader and Cllr Jonathan Bianco as his deputy. The new cabinet portfolios agreed at the AGM were:

Cllr Jonathan Bianco - Deputy Leader, and Property, Highways and Transport
Cllr Martin Goddard - Finance
Cllr Susan O'Brien - Children, Families and Education
Cllr Jane Palmer - Health and Social Care
Cllr Eddie Lavery - Residents' Services
Cllr Douglas Mills - Corporate Services.

Brent, Bromley and Westminster Council AGMs are all scheduled to take place this evening (18 May) and we'll bring you news of all the borough AGMs as they take place over the coming weeks.

London Homelessness Awards

London councils and London-based not-for-profit organisations working in the field of homelessness have until Monday 23 May to submit entries for this year's Londondon's Homelessness Awards.

The awards, which are now in their 21st year, recognise innovation and excellence in projects working with people who are, or at risk of becoming, homeless.

This year's winners will be revelaed at the Union Chapel in Islington on 12 October.
