Friend,
Today is the last day that our Move Into the Future sculpture will be in place at Emancipation Park in Houston, TX. This sculpture, which is
a partnership with Black Lives Matter Houston, is in the shape of a giant pair of sneakers and symbolizes how our Black, brown, immigrant and Indigenous communities will move into an abundant future that we create together.

I know for me, I realized that the fight for racial justice and immigrant justice are interconnected once I began to study abolition. I made the connection that immigrant detention centers are just another version of prisons and jails - harming our communities, traumatizing our loved ones, and keeping us from true liberation. The goal of the sculpture is to spark the discussions that lead to these realizations.🧡
On the site, you’ll be able to take a 360 tour of the sneakers, learn about the artists, and sign on to the pledge to move into the future with intentional community care! ðŸ’While browsing the site, take some time to think about the future you see for yourself and your community & how you can take action to make it a reality.
We have more than enough within ourselves, in each other, and in our communities to keep each other safe and build the future we deserve.✨
💖With love,
Ayling and the rest of the UWD Team
