Look, I know this is a tough time for those of us who care about the rights and freedoms we should be guaranteed as Americans. From our own bodies to our communities to our elections, it seems like everything is under attack.

Some people will say it’s too much, and tune out completely. Others will let their grief and anger fuel them toward taking action.

The right to vote and to have one’s vote count equally is the right that underlies all others. Without a functioning, healthy democracy, we don’t have the tools to protect the rights and freedoms we hold dear.

So when Republicans try to take away our right to vote fairly and equitably – as they continue to do through gerrymandering and voter suppression – we must fight back.

Which brings me to a choice we all have to make between keeping up the fight, and hoping it’s enough that someone else does it.
