Congressman Norcross says suspending federal, state gas taxes could save drivers 60 cents a gallon
Norcross urging governors to suspend tax at state level amid astronomical gas prices
SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — As gas prices keep climbing with no end in sight, U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross of New Jersey is planning to introduce a temporary suspension of the federal gas tax.
“We have to be prepared that this could go on for some time,” he said. “We see $4 now. It’s $5.50 a gallon in California. This is a big, big problem, not only to the men and women we represent, but to our economy.”
One of the important aspects of Norcross’ bill is redirecting money so that key infrastructure projects funded by the gas tax would not be interrupted.
Norcross said there is bipartisan consensus in Washington that something needs to be done to help people. It’s still unclear when the bill will be introduced and be up for a vote.
