John,

Justice Alito’s leaked draft opinion that indicated the justices’ intentions to overturn Roe v. Wade continues to create shockwaves through court watchers and environmentalists alike.

Environmental law experts see this draft opinion as a signal that the court is willing to dramatically alter the country’s legal framework, especially as we wait on their decision in West Virginia v. EPA – a case that could significantly hinder the EPA’s ability to act on climate change.

Now, several environmental groups are calling for expanding the Supreme Court’s bench by four seats.

These organizations state that the draft opinion proves this ultra-conservative court is “no longer serving in the interests of Americans.” As a solution, they call on Congress to add four additional justices to counterbalance the 6-3 conservative majority.

While the notion of expanding the bench has been floated a number of times, many argue that such a vote could lead to “court-packing” and further wedge the Supreme Court into a partisan tool. So we wanted to ask your opinion, , John: Do you think expanding the Supreme Court bench is a good idea?
