AYD would like to express our profound and deepest sympathies to the people and communities affected by the horrific act of racial violence that occurred in Buffalo, NY over the weekend. We stand in solidarity with Black Americans who are hurting and healing from yet another white supremacist attack. White supremacy is rottenly rooted in this country’s core and mass shootings are far too common. We must combat racism in all spaces and push our legislators and communities to take steps to keep these attacks from happening. One action we encourage you to take right now is to donate to help the victims and the families affected in Buffalo.
As the fight for abortion rights continues, AYDs showed up this past weekend at the 'Bans off our Bodies' protest in DC and we will continue to let you know about any upcoming events regarding abortion rights protections. In fact, there is a Planned Parenthood Statewide SCOTUS Info Session this Wednesday, May 18th at 6pm if you are interested. We also hosted an Abortion Stigma Training last week with Planned Parenthood and if you missed it, you can watch it here (password is Abortion2022!).
Reminder, tonight at 6:30PM at Shirlington Library, AYD is hosting a candidate forum. We’ll hear virtually from Congressman Don Beyer and Victoria Virasingh, candidates for Virginia’s 8th Congressional District Primary. In addition, we’ll hear an in-person candidate announcement from Arlington County School Board candidate Bethany Sutton.
This weekend we’re hosting a voter registration bar crawl this Saturday starting at 6pm, keep an eye on socials for location announcements. Also, our AAPI Happy Hour has been pushed back one week to May 31st. We hope to see you there!
