Yesterday’s newly released district maps violate the New York State constitutional requirement of keeping communities together and the cores of existing districts largely intact. I am disturbed that a judge would allow such a clear drift from the rule of law — especially without holding a single public hearing on these new lines.
I am proud to live in the 12th Congressional district, it includes the core neighborhoods that I have represented for over 30 years, and new ones that I look forward to representing. As one of the most progressive members of Congress, this is a district that I'm looking forward to running in and fighting for in Washington.
More than ever, we need a representative who will speak truth to power and relentlessly dig in for the important battles. Someone who will fight for working New Yorkers and who has a track record of holding Donald Trump and rising Republican authoritarianism accountable.
