** Abraham Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Proclamation ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Thanksgiving was once the second-most-observed holiday in the United States after the Fourth of July.

That may be changing.

If YouTube and Twitter comments are any indication, Thanksgiving is coming under attack.

More and more Americans see it as a symbol of genocide and oppression.

What We Can Learn from “Honest Abe”

So let’s rewind to 1863.

The United States is torn by civil war. Americans are killing Americans in places named Chancellorsville, Chickamauga, Gettysburg, Vicksburg.

Despite violence, slavery, and suffering, President Abraham Lincoln writes a Thanksgiving proclamation. His words encourage all Americans to practice gratitude, and even a kind of penitence.

Why? Because Lincoln understood that if we see only evil, we’ll neglect the good.

And what greater injustice could there be than that?

The Proclamation

In our hotly divided country today, we need Lincoln’s words more than ever. So we’re sharing his Thanksgiving proclamation for your reading pleasure.

Before you slice turkey and pie, spend two minutes with the words of one of the greatest American presidents.
