Tell your congressperson: Don't force Biden to continue Title 42.
ACLU Supporter –
We expect our elected officials to uphold human rights and the rule of law – not circumvent the law by indefinitely preventing people from seeking safety in our country.
Sadly, that's exactly what some lawmakers are trying to do right now with Title 42, and we wanted to be sure you knew this was happening. Here's what to know – and what action to take: <[link removed]>
* First, as a refresher, Title 42 is a brutal policy initiated by the Trump administration – under the false guise of COVID safety – that strips people at the border of their right to seek asylum.
* Human rights organizations have documented over 10,000 instances of violent attacks, kidnappings, torture, or sexual assaults against people blocked in or expelled to Mexico due to Title 42 – including families with small children and vulnerable people fleeing violence.
* Title 42 has also been criticized by leading epidemiologists and public health experts from the start. Earlier this year, a group of experts called on the Biden administration to "end its use of the scientifically-baseless Title 42 policy" which, they said, does not help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and "if anything, makes matters worse."
* Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) rightfully issued an order ending Title 42 effective May 23 – but anti-immigrant politicians are now attempting to override CDC's order through legislation that mandates Title 42's indefinite continuation.
And that's where you come in, ACLU Supporter: Fight back with us today by sending a message to Congress urging them not to interfere with CDC's decision to end Title 42. <[link removed]>

We know there's a great deal going on right now across so many civil liberties issues – but this is a brutal, anti-immigrant policy that has been putting lives at risk for far too long.
Lawmakers should not be playing politics with people's lives. Not now. Not ever.
So please, send your message to Congress for the safety and human rights of asylum seekers today. <[link removed]>
