Republicans at every level of government are threatening New Mexico’s status as a safe haven for people seeking reproductive health care

While millions of Americans deal with fear and uncertainty sparked by news that the Supreme Court plans to overturn Roe v Wade and end constitutional protections for abortion, Republicans are already moving to outlaw abortion wherever possible.
New Mexico’s GOP gubernatorial candidates have already made it clear that, if elected, they would enact extremist anti-choice legislation similar to Texas’ heartbeat bill.
Now, Republicans are taking it a step further. In recent interviews Mitch McConnell acknowledged the possibility of a federal abortion ban, a law which would overrule the will of New Mexico voters and restrict health care across the nation.
As a previous co-sponsor of legislation that would ban abortion nationwide and restrict access to birth control, Yvette Herrell would be a sure vote in favor of this extreme step to deny access to abortion across the United States.
