Fee Relief, Reduced Property Tax, Supporting Small Businesses BILL SIGNING TOUR - DAY 1 Today, in Denver, Colorado Springs, and Centennial, I joined bill sponsors and business leaders to sign legislation bringing historic savings to Coloradans by providing property tax relief for homeowners and business in the state, making it free to start a business, and increasing affordable housing opportunities for hardworking families. KEEPING MONEY IN COLORADANS' POCKETS REDUCING HOUSING COSTS I told Coloradans during my January State of the State address that my top priority was to save you money. Today, we delivered on these bold goals to ensure every Coloradan can thrive. In Denver, I signed SB22-238 and HB22-1416 to provide $750 million in property tax relief for every homeowner and business in the state. In a rapidly increasing real estate market, this property tax relief package, combined with the property tax reductions passed last year, will reduce property taxes for homeowners by an average of $274 in 2023 on a $500,000 home and will provide significant savings for every business in the state. Later in the day, I also signed a bipartisan bill, SB22-146 which appropriates $25 million from the affordable housing and home ownership cash fund for expansion of the middle income access program to save Coloradans even more money on housing. LOWERING PRICES AT THE PUMP This morning I also signed HB22-1351, a new law to help save Coloradans money at the gas pump by reducing vehicle registration costs and the statewide road usage fee. This legislation is going to save Coloradans money in registration fees and at the gas pump, where prices have gone up over the last year due to ongoing supply issues and the impacts of the war in Ukraine. I also signed HB22-1004, Driver License Fee Reduction, to lower another cost for Coloradans. SAVING SMALL BUSINESSES MONEY TRANSFORMATIONAL FEE RELIEF, STRENGTHENING WORKFORCE As an entrepreneur I know every cent counts when you’re getting a small business off the ground so I am particularly thrilled that we are cutting red tape to help small business owners and making it nearly free to start a new business, and reducing the burden of federal taxes on our Colorado small businesses. I stopped by a Colorado Springs classic, BJ Velvet Freez this afternoon to sign new laws to help save businesses money. First up was SB22-006 which lets Colorado’s small businesses keep more of the sales tax revenue that they collect, opening up the door for small businesses to hire more employees, expand, invest in updates and more. I also signed the bipartisan HB22-1230 Employment Support And Job Retention Services to foster systems that support Coloradans and give them the resources they need to find and keep good paying jobs that lead to careers. This is especially critical as our economy continues its strong recovery from the pandemic. MAKING IT NEARLY FREE TO START A BUSINESS Next, I stopped by Village Workspace in Centennial to sign new laws to help start a business and save people money through fee relief. I signed HB22-1001, bipartisan legislation making it nearly free to start a business. I signed another bipartisan bill SB22-124 to save Colorado taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars in federal income tax through the SALT Parity Act. This legislation is a needed step to not only help create tax parity, but to put money back in the hands of our small businesses, which as we all know are our engines of job creation and economic growth. FOLLOW ALONG FOR THE BILL SIGNING TOUR! May 12th began the 30-day clock for all of the bills passed this session to make their way across my desk. I will be traveling to every corner of our state during the bill signing tour to celebrate the incredible work we have done this legislative session.
