Dear Friend,

I am writing to you today from Buffalo, where our community is in shock. In shock because ten of our siblings were gunned down as they went about the ordinary task of buying groceries for their families. In shock because, once again, white supremacist violence has resulted in the senseless murder of Black people. And in shock because this country refuses to invest in proven solutions to end gun violence. As a result, our community and allies across the nation are in mourning.

I live and have worked in this community for years, faithfully bringing forth social justice and equity in the Buffalo region through organized, collective action. Right now, we are on the ground, ministering to families, ensuring people have access to food, mental health counseling, and preparing for the collective grieving and healing process that lies ahead. But we need your help.

Please donate to support the Faith in Action affiliate, VOICE Buffalo, right now. We are providing immediate support to our grieving community, as well as demanding our leaders provide trauma-informed solutions to gun violence and white supremacist violence.

The gunman may have been apprehended, but the killer — white supremacy and deeply internalized racism — is still on the loose. We need healing.

We can’t do it without resources. Donate now as we secure these four steps toward healing and justice:

  1. Provide fully funded mental health and healing services for Buffalo’s Masten neighborhood, with Black therapists and doctors being prioritized.
  2. Activate victims of crime funds to support families and residents in neighborhoods impacted by gun violence.
  3. Leverage unused American Rescue Plan Act dollars for public health and community-centered peace and public safety strategies.
  4. Work directly with Gov. Kathy Hochul to fully fund violence prevention strategies

VOICE Buffalo is already embedded in this community, working every day to end gun violence and begin healing. Now, the community is in crisis and we must show up to help.

Pray for us. And then, take action. Donate to help our siblings in Buffalo as we withstand this state of emergency. Donate to dismantle the machineries of hate and invest in systems that will actually keep us safe.

I am hurting. But I know I will get up tomorrow and get back to work because the work is urgent and lives depend on it. Please support VOICE Buffalo today in our time of need.

In peace,

Rev. Denise O. Walden-Glenn
Executive Servant Leader (Director)
VOICE Buffalo
