Friend: I'm a proud Morehouse College graduate. The years I spent on that campus shaped the trajectory of my life – and I wouldn't trade my experience for anything.

When I enrolled at Morehouse back in 1987, I had what I called a "full faith scholarship" – my way of saying I had no idea how I'd pay for school. But thanks to Pell Grants, low-interest loans, and a whole lot of love from my parents, I became the first in my family to graduate from college.

Here's the hard truth: The opportunities that led to my achieving the American dream – from getting my degree, to preaching from the same pulpit as Martin Luther King Jr., to serving as Georgia's first Black senator – are becoming fewer and further between.

Today, too many of our young people are leaving school with historic amounts of debt. Students have a mortgage-size debt burden before they can even get a mortgage.

That's why we need student debt relief, and we need it now. This is a key thing we can do to lower costs for folks. I'm fighting hard to make sure our kids can get ahead, but I need you with me. So please, friend, I'm personally asking:

Will you add your name alongside mine to support student debt relief for millions of families across the country? I'm looking for 10,000 supporters to sign my petition before 11:59 p.m. tonight – but time is running out, and I'm still missing your name.

We successfully achieved an extended pause in student loan payments. Now, with your help, we'll achieve bold action on student debt relief. Thanks for doing your part.
