John,

We are reaching out to our members in North Carolina to vote on our first two endorsements of 2022 in the state!

First up, Erica Smith is running to represent North Carolina’s 1st District in Congress!

Senator Smith is a progressive running a corporate-free campaign against a conservative fellow State Senator who has too often voted with Republicans. She, on the other hand, has a record of taking on Big Energy, cash bail, and predatory lending as well as fighting to expand healthcare access, raise the minimum wage, and protect reproductive healthcare and our climate.

“We will come together, from small towns and farms across our district, to win this seat for the people and deliver a New Deal for rural North Carolinians,” Erica said. “We need a Rural New Deal that levels the playing field. Our communities deserve more than a GoFundMe healthcare system and a dollar store economy,” Erica said, advocating for a sustainable energy future that'll create millions of good paying jobs and secure energy freedom.

In Washington, Erica will fight for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and the PRO Act.

Nida Allam is running for Congress in North Carolina’s 4th District. She is an outspoken progressive who served as a political director for Bernie’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Nida currently serves on the Durham County Commission, where she voted to raise the minimum wage for county employees to $15/hour and led the charge for a low-income tax grant assistance program during the pandemic. She also worked to secure funding for a Refugee and Immigrant Services Coordinator for the district.

Nida was moved to enter politics after three of her closest friends were shot and killed in a 2015 Islamophobic hate crime which local police and investigators insisted on calling a “parking dispute.” She became the first Muslim woman ever elected to public office in North Carolina.

If elected, Nida will be a champion for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal and a higher minimum wage.

Do Erica and Nida sound like the kind of candidates we should send to Congress from North Carolina? Let us know what you think!
