Hi there,
Tomorrow is the North Carolina primary. Our Democratic majority is hanging by a thread, and we need to ensure we have excellent candidates running for office. That means candidates with compelling narratives who have a proven track record serving their communities.
Valerie Foushee, running for NC-04, has served in the North Carolina legislature as a state senator for nearly a decade, and before that, she served as a state representative, county commissioner, and member of the school board. If that weren’t enough, she also has 21-years of experience serving with the Chapel Hill Police Department. She’s been serving her community on the front lines for years now and has what it takes to serve on the front lines in Washington.
Cheri Beasley has another critical primary race, running for the open U.S. N.C. Senate seat. Beginning as a public defender and then as a state court judge, she made history as the first Black woman to ever serve as Chief Justice on the N.C. Supreme Court. In 2020, she ran for reelection as Chief Justice, losing by a narrow 401 votes. Justice Beasley knows better than anyone: voter turnout matters.
401 votes swing elections in North Carolina. This state is the definition of a battleground for our democracy. Now is the time to double down and elect history-making candidates who have the experience of truly serving their communities. These two Black women are both set to make history – Valerie Foushee as the first Black woman to serve the Old North State’s Fourth District and Cheri Beasley as North Carolina’s first Black female U.S. Senator.
We have to fight to ensure incredible candidates like them are serving us in Washington. Will you chip in $10 or any amount to make history with these two changemakers?
Thanks for being in the fight,

Democrats Serve is a national organization that backs Democrats running for office with frontline public service backgrounds, including first responders, firefighters, social workers, police officers, prosecutors, judges, public defenders, educators, and more.
Democratic candidates with professional experience serving their communities in government have a pragmatic approach to governing and know how to get things done, making for strong narratives and an ability to connect with voters uniquely.
However, when running for office, they often lack access to the professional campaign staff and wealthy donor networks that non-working class candidates do.
