Friend –
We wanted to share some exciting news -- we just announced major investments in supporting four pro-environment, non-incumbent women of color running for U.S. House seats in competitive primaries: Jessica Cisneros, candidate for TX-28; Donna Edwards, candidate for MD-04; Summer Lee, candidate for PA-12; and Andrea Salinas, candidate for OR-06.
This is big -- LCV Victory Fund has only invested in federal primary elections a handful of times before. But we're getting involved in these primaries because they represent a real shot at electing more pro-environment women of color -- and transforming Congress to be more representative of the electorate.
Here's one example of the stakes in these races: in Oregon's 6th district, Andrea Salinas is running against candidate Carrick Flynn. Flynn has said he's 'sympathetic to' Timber Unity -- an anti-environment group with far right anti-governmental ties.
This kind of electoral strategy is only possible because of support from folks like you, Friend. And it matters. Our country can't afford to keep electing lawmakers who are willing to bargain away investments in climate action, clean energy and environmental justice. We need the best pro-environment candidates to win if we're going to have a shot at real progress for people and the planet.
During primaries like these -- when the choice is SO clear -- it sends a strong message when the environmental movement gets involved like we are here. Thank you, Friend, for being a part of it.
