THE TRUTH ABOUT SECRET CAMPS AND
FORCED DISAPPEARANCES IN XINJIANG, CHINA

Dear John,

We know more now about what's happening in Xinjiang, and the truth is as bad —
or worse — as we feared.

Recently leaked official documents have revealed the vast extent of the Chinese
government's campaign of mass internment, intrusive surveillance, political
indoctrination and forced cultural assimilation against Uyghurs, Kazakhs and
other predominantly Muslim groups living in Xinjiang.

This is further proof of its systematic persecution of ethnic and religious
minorities in China on a sickeningly vast scale.

With the appointment of a new Minister of Foreign Affairs, it's time for Canada
to firmly demand an independent investigation into the "re-education" camps, and
reveal the truth about cultural assimilation in Xinjiang.

Send a message to Minister Champagne urging him to make exposing the truth about
Is lamophobic persecution and detention camps in Xinjiang a top priority in
Canada's ongoing engagement with China.

If China has nothing to hide, it should allow truly independent human rights
monitors immediate and unfettered access to Xinjiang — something it has
steadfastly refused to do so far, despite repeated requests from Amnesty
International and others.

Please join our call for truth and justice in Xinjiang.

Sincerely,

Alex Neve
Secretary General
Amnesty International Canada

P.S. The abuses described in "The China Cables" leaks match the harrowing
testimony Amnesty International has received from former detainees of mass internment camps in Xinjiang, as well as from
relatives of those still missing. These leaks should be the catalyst for the
international community to increase pressure on the Chinese authorities to end
this human rights catastrophe. Urge Canada to act now >>
