Dear Friend,
As the People’s Lawyer, it is my job to defend Colorado consumers–and their pocketbooks. That includes returning almost $40 million to consumers from unfair or deceptive charges. It also includes reviewing the Frontier-Spirit airline merger to make sure that it does not harm consumers.
At the start of the pandemic, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) made clear that airline travelers have rights, including a right to refunds or credits when travel plans are changed on account of a public health crisis. Unfortunately, as we saw in 2020, not all airlines took this obligation seriously. In particular, the Attorney General’s Office received more complaints about Frontier’s failure to honor this requirement than about any other company. That’s why we called on federal authorities to investigate Frontier’s conduct that harmed Colorado consumers.
We have continued to advocate for airline travelers and push the DOT to ensure that all consumers are treated fairly and are given appropriate credits. In the wake of the proposed Frontier-Spirit Airlines merger, we are working to ensure that [[link removed]] , if the merger proceeds, it will not harm consumers. In the past, we have acted to stop anticompetitive mergers and to impose conditions that protect competition. We won’t hesitate to do so again if necessary.
As we work to continue protecting consumers, I would appreciate your support, making a contribution to help us continue to stand up for you.
