Friends,

I'm proud to share that for the second year in a row I've been named the most bipartisan member of the Iowa congressional delegation by the Lugar Center and Georgetown University's McCourt School of Public Policy. I was also named the 20th most bipartisan member of the entire House of Representatives.

Since coming to Congress, I've been laser-focused on cutting through bureaucratic red tape, lowering costs, and expanding opportunities for Iowans. In a Congress that seems more divided than ever, I have worked hard with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get things done for Iowa. I'm honored to receive this recognition and I will continue working tirelessly to bring Iowans' voices to Congress with me.

These last couple of weeks I've been in Washington D.C., fighting to get Iowa's police departments more federal funding, promoting my new rural prosperity agenda and more. Keep reading to find out what I've been working on.

My New Rural Prosperity Agenda

Over the last few years that I've had the honor of representing the Third District, I've had countless conversations with rural Iowans about the issues they're facing in their everyday lives. From manufacturers saying there isn't enough housing in their communities to attract new employees, to small business owners struggling to connect to the internet, I've heard countless reasons why rural Iowans are feeling left behind.

My new Rural Prosperity Agenda tackles some of the biggest issues rural Iowans are facing including investments in quality, affordable housing, closing the rural broadband gap, supporting local police departments to keep our neighborhoods safe, and so much more.

Fighting to Better Fund Local Police Departments

Last week, Rep. Josh Gottheimer and I led 19 of our colleagues on a letter encouraging House Leadership to bring the bipartisan, bicameral Invest to Protect Act to the House floor to better support rural and small police departments.

The legislation would create a new grant program to invest in local police departments that have fewer than 200 officers. Grants would be available for officer training, recruitment, and other personnel costs, as well as body cameras and other equipment.

We need to ensure our officers and police departments have all of the tools they need to protect our communities and I'm hopeful we will vote on this legislation in a timely manner.

Supporting Local Cattle Producers

I recently introduced legislation with fellow Iowa Rep. Randy Feenstra to return fairness to the cattle marketplace, which is currently dominated by four major meatpackers. Iowa's independent cattle producers deserve a cattle market that provides them with fair and equal footing, and this updated legislation brings us one step closer to make that reality.

Critical reforms included in this legislation will help ensure that Iowa's local producers can keep their doors open and participate in the market. I will continue working my colleagues in congress to ensure these reforms move forward.

New Des Moines Office Location

Image

At the beginning of this month, my staff and I moved to a new office location in West Des Moines. This move was coordinated by the landlord, R&R reality, to accommodate a new tenant that expanded into the rented space my office had previously occupied in Des Moines.

My new constituent services office is now open and located in the Veridian building, which is part of Three Fountains Office Park, at 4601 Westown Parkway, Suite 150, West Des Moines, IA, 50266.

Anyone who needs help with a federal agency, has questions questions about a government agency, or is applying to a military service academy is encouraged to stop by and speak to a staff member.

Be well,

Cindy
