John,

When the recently leaked draft opinion from the Supreme Court revealed that the six-member conservative majority could overturn Roe v. Wade , A.G. Holder responded by arguing in TIME Magazine that “the mission of the Supreme Court has been compromised and … the institution is in need of reform.”

“If anything remotely resembling what Justice Samuel Alito wrote becomes an official decision, it will be among the worst in the history of our country, an attack on women and on every citizen’s right to privacy we assumed was ours.” — A.G. Holder

It’s becoming increasingly clear that Republicans will use any means at their disposal to accomplish their goals, even if it means trampling on the will of the people and violating our democracy. If this draft opinion on Roe is issued as an official decision, stopping Republicans from gerrymandering their way to even more unearned majorities will be critical to defending abortion rights in the states.

And it’s doesn’t stop with abortion rights, either: Ending map manipulation is a prerequisite to making progress on every single issue Democrats care about, from voting rights to LGBTQ rights to the cost of health care and higher education and more. The good news is we have a plan to champion fair maps across the country, but we need your help to get it done.

So if the news that the Supreme Court could overturn Roe has you concerned about the future of our democracy, consider pitching in to the organization whose number one mission is to defend it. >> [link removed]

We’ve had some big wins since our launch in 2017. Together, we can end GOP gerrymandering and strengthen our democracy for generations to come.

Subject: A.G. Holder: “The Supreme Court continues to put its legitimacy at risk.”

John – We’ve known for a while now that the Supreme Court is not a friend of democracy. In recent months, the six conservative justices have shown that they aren’t big fans of fair redistricting, either:

“After a redistricting cycle that initially went better than expected for Democrats, the conservative Supreme Court has bolstered Republican efforts to reverse that trend , with more cases in the wings from GOP attorneys and legislators from multiple states.”

– The Washington Post

We won’t sugarcoat it: This is an alarming development, and it underscores how much work there is still to do to ensure the fairest possible districts – both in 2022 and beyond. Your support is critical to the execution of that work, John. Will you pitch in whatever you can today to help the fight for fair maps? >> [link removed]

There are more threats from SCOTUS on the horizon. First, the justices could hear more redistricting cases in the coming months and years. And second, Republicans are asking the Court to validate the independent state legislature theory, a fringe idea that, if adopted, could give GOP state legislatures unprecedented power over maps and elections.

At the end of the day, it’s up to us to stay vigilant, find creative solutions, and keep fighting for fair elections in state after state. We need you with us – will you pitch in now?
