A study from April showed the UK has imported nearly two million barrels of Russian oil, worth an estimated £220 million, since the start of the war. And more has arrived since then. [5] The lives of ordinary people in Ukraine are being destroyed, but European countries including ours continue to fund this fossil-fuelled war.
Fossil fuels have led to, and will continue to lead to, wars across the world. They destroy the climate, bringing suffering to millions of people, and they are the root of energy crises. The UN’s latest report was clear that it is “moral and economic madness” to fund new fossil fuel projects.
But there’s a clear solution to protect our planet and say no to war. We need to invest in clean transport, energy efficiency and massively ramp up our ambition for clean, reliable renewable energy. And we need to stop buying and drilling for more fossil fuels. [6] [7]
